Overall conclusions, thoughts and wrap-up
So this is the part where I give my final verdict of the Samsung Omnia 7, the first Windows Phone 7 device I was lucky enough to review. This part of the review is written with the Samsung Omnia 7 between me and the laptop I’m writing on (so I need to be gentle, he’s reading what I write
).
To be quite fair I can be very gentle about the Samsung Omnia 7. In three words: “I like it”. But to be somewhat more specific about the device, I must admit that I think the Omnia 7 has only one downside, and that is taking pictures when using the flashlight.
The Windows Phone 7 core features are quick but aren’t completely flawless; For example hidden SSID’s cannot be added to your WLAN settings. But from my perspective, that is just a matter of time AND those are issues every Windows Phone 7 device currently shipping faces. The smoothness and swiftness of the OS is the key to a good user experience and I must admit Windows Phone 7 runs pretty darn quick on the Omnia 7.
What I like a lot about the Omnia 7 is it’s camera. The pictures are really well and the video is even better.
Another great aspect of the Omnia 7 is the placement of all the buttons. I need to take my own experiences as a reference here, your conclusion can be absolutely different. It doesn’t care in which hand I’m holding the Omnia, I can push any button without using my other hand and without making convulsive movements with my hand. So the one-hand usage experience is really well for my kind of hands.
But the best feature of the Samsung Omnia 7 must be it’s screen. This crystal clear Super AMOLED Screen is really amazing. Not only when you’re displaying an 720p video on it, which is almost a jaw-dropping experience, but also when you’re just reading the internet or email, or just flipping through the menu.
