CONCLUDING THOUGHTS AND WRAP-UP
I’m pleasantly surprised by the LG Optimus 7 !
On the hardware side it feels like LG has made a few leaps ahead, since the LG Optimus 7 gives a high-end look and feel. The rounded edges make it comfortable to hold, while the weight is well balanced in your hand (despite it is not the lightest device). The weight gives the LG Optimus 7 / LG-E900 a solid feeling.
I absolutely love the physical hardware buttons below the screen, and the only real point for improvement I can see is the position of the microUSB port and the hard plastic flap that covers it. Overall the LG Optimus 7 is pretty damn good !
Windows Phone 7 is the latest and greatest mobile operating system from Microsoft, with a fresh new look and feel that shares the same design language as the Zune HD. Please have a look at the 5000 word review with 70 screenshots that covers the core features of Windows Phone 7. While there is certainly room for improvement, Windows Phone 7 does the things it does very, very. well ! The operating system is fast, responsive and rock solid stable !
LG has added unique software as well, which add value to the overall product offering. Not only the pre-installed applications like Panorama shot, Play To and ScanSearch add value, but there are some nice applications in the LG Apps Store as well. For example ToolBox, Metro Scanner and Photo Stylist are helpful apps that are free for the buyers of the LG Optimus 7 / LG-E900.
So overall it is a well balanced and good product, that combines good hardware and good software. Keep up the good work and I’m really curious to see the upcoming new Windows Phone 7 devices, according to the expanded alliance between Microsoft and LG Electronics !
Note:
The LG Optimus 7 I reviewed is a Vodafone branded version, as you might have noticed on the retail box in the unboxing section. The only Vodafone branding in the out-of-the-box experience is the Vodafone 360 hub / application that is pinned to the start screen. Microsoft is in strict(er) control of the end-user experience, so therefore the number of customizations is very limited.
