Yesterday I had the pleasure to attend the press conference of  HTC launching their new Windows Phone devices the HTC 8X and the HTC 8S in New York City. Let me tell you that it was definitely worth my time and I have to give HTC credit  that they have stepped up their game with these great new Windows Phone devices.

With two similar HTC events going on in New York City and London will already tell you that HTC is giving these new Windows Phone Signature device a high priority. Both Peter Chou (HTC) and Steve Ballmer (Microsoft) were on stage together announcing a special partnership with these Signature Windows Phones.

Design and feel

The elegant and simple Windows Phone 7 and 8 design was used as inspiration for these new from the ground up iconic designed HTC 8x and 8S phones.  The poly carbonate uni-body design has a nice soft texture. The 8S compared to the 8X has a small door that opens from the bottom that allows you to add extra storage with an SD card. The video below from HTC will give a great impression of the story behind the new design. I have to say holding these devices in my hand the curved design feels ideal in my hands and my front pocket of my pants.

The main differences

I can go in complete detail about specifications but it is important to know what the main difference would be in the user experience. While the user experiences differences are very minimum the price point of the 8X will be higher due to the internal hardware to give you better components, especially with the camera.
The camera on the 8X is an 8 Mp compared to the 5 Mp camera on the 8S. Both take excellent photo’s and HD video which you can post to your favorite social media site. If you really want to try to replace your pocket camera you should go for the 8X. The front facing camera on the 8X has more pixels (2.1 Mp) and has a wide-angle lens that allows you have more than just your face in the picture or video while holding the device at arms length.
Both devices have the Beats audio enhancer build in except that the 8x has two added Beats amplifier, one for the external speaker and one for the headphone jack.
The screen size of the 8S is slightly smaller compared to the 8X, 4 inch compared to 4.3 inch. With a HD-resolution super LCD 2 screen protected by Gorilla Glass 2. The 8X has a bright super LCD screen with Gorilla glass. For the average user not much of a difference but to the hardcore user it could be valuable.

For me I really like the design, color options, texture and the experience of Windows Phone on these devices. The HTC 8S and 8X will allow you to stand out in the crowd and have something new in your life. Ben the PC guy has a great video below introducing you to the HTC 8X and 8S. Below the video I have some image I took yesterday during the press event.
