Yesterday Microsoft announced their Zune HD wich needs to bring some competition against the iPod Touch. The twitterpage of user “officethemovie“  already made a nice statement on May 11th with the tweets:

June 2009 will be an important month for Zune lovers.

and

New product launch, that’s all I’m allowed to say. Hold off from buying an iPhone/Pre. :)

Yesterday Microsoft announced their new ZuneHD which must become the iPod Touch killer

Some interesting facts about the new Zune HD:

  • The new Zune HD has an 3.3″ OLED Touch Screen with a 480 x 272 resolution.
  • The new Zune HD has HD Radio.
  • The new Zune HD has HD video output for a great video experience on both the device and a TV.
  • The new Zune HD has Wifi and it’s possible to buy and download content directly on the Zune HD.
  • The new Zune HD has an Internet Browser probably based on Internet Explorer.
  • The new Zune HD is flash based. – Goodbye harddrive!

So all this look really promissing but if it can beat the iPod Touch it’s just too soon to say. I think Apple has a strong benefit with all the available applications that can be installed on the iPod Touch. In that way it is possible to really customise the iPod Touch which users like to do. I personally hope that Microsoft will consider to bring the Windows Mobile Marketplace to their Zune platform or create a new Marketplace for Zune owners. In these days people want more than just another Mediaplayer when they buy a high-end device. I hope Microsoft will be able to bring this for the new Zune lovers.
