If you are travelling to the United States or if you live in the United states you realize that Mobile data comes at huge cost. Many get charged international roaming data costs or if you live in the United Sates you get charged overages. In some cases you even have to pay your carrier to turn on the hotspot functionality on your phone just to be able to share your current data plan with other devices. Many have asked me over the years what is the best dataplan to get. Well there is a new player in town.

Until now Virgin Mobile  was the first choice I would let people know to use. The monthly fee  for data is for 30 days. After 30 days you will have to buy a new package. Any unused data would not roll over and you could consider it as a loss.

You can buy the following packages at Virgin Mobile:

  • $5/day for 200 MB/day for 3G (when connected to 4G it is unlimited)
  • $35/month for 2 GB/month for 3G (when connected to 4G it is unlimited)
  • $55/month for 5 GB/month for 3G (when connected to 4G it is unlimited)

Buying a hotspot for Virgin Mobile with or without 4G  will cost you around $100 and you can buy these at major retailers like Walmart

Best Mobile Hotspot Data Package for on the go in the United States

But now we have a new kid on the block. Internet on the Go has broadband service available only at Walmart. First point to let you know, it is only 3G  (on the Sprint network) which is good enough for almost everything.

Secondly, they have plans that have no monthly charges and no expiration of the data you buy. Now that is huge!!! If you want to go bigger you can double your data for the month for the same price but that will expire in 30 days.

Now let’s take a look how this will play out for you:

First let’s look at the plans where there are no monthly charges and no expiration of the data.

  • $10 for 500 MB
  • $25 for 1.5 GB
  • $45 for 4 GB

Now if you are in the need of a lot of data for the next 30 days, you double your data with the prices listed above and it even will beat Virgin Mobile pricing by far.

  • $10 for 1 GB/30 days
  • $25 for 3 GB/ 30 Days
  • $45 for 8 GB/ 30 days (now that is a deal)

The Mobile hotspot goes for around $80 as first initial investment at Walmart which is a Mifi 2200.

Really this is the best deal out there. Very easy manageable with recharge cards or purchase extra data online.

First I have to say – Thank you for brining this info, I’ve been searching for this kind of detailed article for quite a while.
Now, I have this 4G LTE Device http://www.4gsource.net/zte-mf91.html, what type of plan would you recommend me?

I might check this out, since my carrier seems to want to keep people from using internet sharing on it’s phones.
