HTC Touch Pro2 ROM Upgrade (EU)

A few days ago I reported about two hotfixes for the HTC Touch Pro2 in the article: “HTC Touch Pro2 hotfixes for GPS Capability and Text Message Sending improvements”. Today however a ROM Upgrade is available for the HTC Touch Pro2, which addresses a few additional bugs as well:

tp2_romupgrade_588px

  1. The Financial Providers Icon (Yahoo!) was placed in the Stock Tab in TouchFLO to clearly indicate where the data originated.
  2. The phone now shows the actual amount of RAM (288MB) instead of the amount used in previous models (256MB).

Important notes

On the HTC Support website you can also find some additional notes, with one very important that the previous hotfixes are not included in this ROM, and you need to re-install them when needed. Furthermore the ROM Upgrade for HTC Touch Pro2 is available for certain ROM versions and languages:

  1. This upgrade was not included in the previous hotfix. Please re-install the hotfix you need if you use this to upgrade your device.
  2. The update is available for the following languages:
    English (Pan Europe and WWE)- ROM version 1.19.401.1;
    -  Italian- ROM version 1.19.408.1;
    -  French- ROM version 1.19.406.1;
    -  German- ROM version 1.19.407.1;
    -  Swedish- ROM version 1.19.413.2;
    -  Spanish- ROM version 1.19.412.2;
    -  Portuguese- ROM version 1.19.410.1;
    -  Danish- ROM version 1.19.403.3;
    -  Norwegian- ROM version 1.19.409.2;
    Dutch- ROM version 1.19.404.1.

Before you start the ROM Upgrade right away, please take the time to read the installation instructions carefully on the HTC Support website. There you can also download the ROM Upgrade with use of your product / serial number.

Would be nice if you could drop a comment what really improved after the ROM upgrade from a practical perspective.

    I BUY HTC PRO 2 FROM HOLLAND BUT I CANT USE WİTH DUTCH ROM HOW CAN I CHANGE TO ENGLİSH LANGUGE PLEASE HELP ME

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi mehment,

      At first thank you for your comment on mobilityminded.com, but unfortunately I have to disappoint you.

      It is not possible to change the language on a Windows Mobile Professional device, and you should remark the implications for guaranty and legislation.

      Perhaps you can switch devices with a Touch Pro2 owner with an WWE ROM, who wants a local Dutch ROM.

    I have a HTC Touch Pro2 WM6.1 with Vodafone & can not download the new ROM WM6.5 with my serial number… Can anyone provide me with a direct link or a Serial number so I can download directly? I am confident it will work however just lose the horrible Vodafone customisation! Many thanks

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi Richard,

      A great many thanks for your comment. This is an excellent point, and there are probably more people out there that experience the same problem.

      However since it is a Vodafone branded device, Vodafone is also responsible for the upgrades.

      I hope you will understand that it is not possible to publish share a serial number on the internet, and remark the license restrictions and other legal implications.

      Good luck with obtaining the WM 6.5 upgrade @ Vodafone and let us know what you think of the new improvements.

    I have htc touch i want to change the rom of htc viva i.e omp850-201mhz
    can u suggest me what can i do
    what step should be taken

    I have a HTC Touch Pro 2 on Telstra, I get the same thing, cannot upgrade to 6.5.

    Totally not happy given I pay a premium to be on Telstra in the first place, if any carrier should supply the update, its Telstra.

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi James,

      I feel your pain, but unfortunately it is a decisison of the mobile operator. In my personal view the mobile devices are a way for them to sell voice- and data subscriptions. That is where their revenue comes from, and sometimes providing these upgrades to power users is less relevant for them. I hope Telstra will provide an upgrade in the end.

    Hi, i have a Telstra Unlocked HTC touch pro2. I have seen the new updates to windows 6.5 and i have got that one as well. But i want to get rid off telstra’s stuff like foxtel, bigpond and all. Is it possible to get a rom upgrade that i can get rid of telstra stuff ?? Thanks a lot…

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi Kuldeeo Sharma,

      If the HTC Touch Pro2 is unbranded you can download the latest ROM’s directly from the HTC Support website with your serial number. If your HTC Touch Pro2 is Telstra branded, than you should get in touch with Telstra, since they decide to release an upgrade or not.

    Dear HTC support,
    The first post / request here was one year ago on August 28, 2009.
    How long is it acceptable to wait for an EU region ROM update of WM 6.5?
    I fully respect HTC’s protection of the net providers but I think regional license control can only be acceptable if a minimum of effort is given to make the long time available WM version 6.5 available to all customers. It’s not like it needs to be built from scratch!
    Best regards
    Michael

      Hi Michael,

      Sorry to hear that you don’t have the ROM upgrade yet.
      What country/region are you living and what is the “language” of your ROM ??

  • Lalit

    Hi,

    I have purchased a HTC touch PRO2 from france and the OS language is French. I leave in India and want to change the language to English(UK). I don’t understand french. So please someone help me to install the patch so that I can use the phone.

    How can I trace current ROM also?

    Regards
    Lalit

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Paul Willen

      Hi Lalit,

      Due to some licencing issues, it is not possible to install an English ROM onto a French device.
      Therefore we sadly cannot help you with this.

  • Anjie Gange

    HI!
    I purchased HTC touch pro2 in Italy, and its in Italian language….Is there any possible way to change it in English?
    Your advice is greatly appreciated….

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi Anjie,

      Unfortunately it is not easily to change the language of Windows Mobile Professional (touch) in comparison to Windows Mobile Standard (non-touch). There are some legal and license implications involved as well, and you simply don’t want to risk your warranty !

    I have just updated yesterday the ROM for my HTC Touch Pro 2 to WM6.5, from the Vodafone web site ( http://devicehelp.vodafone.co.uk/firmwaredevice.php?ModelID=384&e=0 ) Vodafone phone brand, and it works perfectly.
    I am highly impressed with all the upgrades done especially with the ability to install even more function/apps now available through Market Microsoft web site and not only .

    Just a positive note ….

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Great to hear that you love the upgrade, and thank you for sharing the link with Vodafone UK customers ! :)
