HTC Tattoo second HTC Sense powered Android phone from HTC

Today HTC announced the HTC Tattoo, after the HTC Hero it is the second Android smartphone with the excellent HTC Sense interface preloaded on the device. Peter Chou, Chief Executive Officer, HTC Corporation, describes the HTC Tattoo as:

“Everyone wants their own phone to feel like it was specifically made for them. The Tattoo, with HTC Sense represents an easy way to shape your own distinct mobile experience and really make it your own,”

“HTC Tattoo is the second phone to embody HTC Sense, a mobile experience focused on putting people at the centre by making your phone work in a more simple and natural way. Designed by listening and observing how people live and communicate, HTC Sense revolves around three fundamental principles Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected.”

On the HTC Tattoo product page an interesting overview of specifications is shown. I noticed that the HTC Tattoo doesn’t have a HVGA screen lik the HTC Hero, but a QVGA screen with a 240×320 resolution. I really don’t hope that this will impact some of the sleekness of the excellent HTC Sense UI and the overall user experience.

The other specifications however look good, and it features all connectivity options you need including internal GPS. Most of the specifications have strong similarities with the HTC Touch2, the HTC Snap and the HTC Touch Pro2, so you really can’t go wrong with the HTC Tattoo.

Mass customization and personalization

“People are able to design and purchase their own unique covers or search and select frompopular cover designs, altering the look of the phone to reflect their mood or individual tastes.”

While the HTC Sense userinterface contributes for a great deal to a personal experience on the HTC Tattoo, HTC even takes the concept of personalization a few levels up. In fact a very cool idea to customize the phone to your own unique taste. I have seen such a concept before where I could design my own custom snowboard!  I’m looking forward to see how this concept is adapted by the masses. :)

Pricing and availability

“The HTC Tattoo will be available in Europe first at the beginning of October, and will roll out in markets around the world in the following months.”

The HTC Tattoo will be rolled out in the Netherlands via various operators Vodafone, KPN, and is available from E0,– if combined with a subscription. This reflects the idea that HTC really aims at a wide adoption of both the HTC Sense UI as well as the Android operating system.

However I’m curious if this device can cause a “revolution” like the HTC Touch, and break the impressive HTC Touch sales volumes. Furthermore I’m excited to investigate the similarities (or dissimilarities) in the overall user experience of the HTC Tattoo and recently announced the HTC Touch2. What do you think ?
