Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2 – A short review

In this article I would like to bring an excellent case for the HTC HD2 to your attentention that cleverly protects an expensive Windows Phone like the HTC HD2, which has been reviewed a little while ago on the MobilityMinded website.

Introducing the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2

Desipte the fact that the HTC HD2 is pretty strong by design, I already added an additional protection layar on the 4.3″ capacitive touchscreen by applying a Brando Screen Protector Plus Anti-Glare. However I also wanted to protect the HTC HD2 as a whole, give the fact that I have always been a big fan of crystal clear cases.

The result of my quest for a nice crystal clear case for the HTC HD2 is the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2.

The BoxWave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for the HTC HD2 is an ultra low profile rubberized case that slips and grips onto your HTC HD2 (EU and Asia Pacific version).  Precision constructed with anti-slip and cushioned material, the Honeycomb Crystal Slip case provides reliable protection from accidental bumps.  It comes in your choice of various colors and designed with honeycomb debossed patterns on the back, the Honeycomb Crystal Slip accentuates and adds character to your HTC HD2.

A closer look at the design of Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2

In this section I will have a closer look at the functional design of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip, and find out how well it fits the HTC HD2.

I had both silicone and hard plastic crystal cases in the past. The first remarkable fact of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip is the used material, that is somewhere in between silicone and crystal (softer than crystal, while harder than silicone).

  • “Form-fitting case designed to perfectly fit your HTC HD2;
  • Anti-slip properties gives your HTC HD2 more grip on surfaces;
  • Lightweight, durable design protects from scratches and bumps without adding bulk;
  • Easy to slip on your device, yet stays on securely;”

The material is very smooth on the outside, so the HTC HD2 in the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip easily fits into your pocket. At first there is not much weight or bulk added to the device dimensions. Second it is very easy to apply the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip on the HTC HD2, but it stays on perfectly and securely.

  • “Cut-out design for the touchscreen so that you can keep the same tactile feel as using the HTC HD2 without a case;
  • Conveniently designed to provide quick access to all of HTC HD2′s touch controls, features, and ports;”

When you have a look at the picture gallery above, you can see that the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip grips securely on the edge of the front-surface of the HTC HD2. Eventhough there is a Brando Screen Protector Plus Anti-Glare applied on the screen of my HTC HD2, the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip fits perfectly.

The surface of the top- and right side-view don’t feature any cut-outs. On the surface of the bottom-view there are cut-outs included in the design to easily access the 3.5 mm. headphone jack and the microUSB port. The left side-view of the HTC HD2 features the volume control buttons, that are perfectly integrated in the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip design as well, like you can see in the picture gallery above.

  • “Back of the case is designed with honeycomb debossed patterns on the inside, yet smooth on the outside;”

The Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip almost completely covers the backside of the HTC HD2 for a rocksolid protection. Again there are cut-outs for the stereo speaker on the backside of the HTC HD2, the  5 megapixel color camera with Auto focus and the Dual LED flashlight. One of my comments in the HTC HD2 review was about the minimal protection of the cameralens:

“However there is just a minor edge which protects the camera lens from scratching if you put the device on the table.”

The Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip solves this issue, because of the added aditional mm. of case thinkness. Furthermore there is a cut-out for the HTC logo on the backside of the HTC HD2. Most of the backside of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip consists of a honeycomb pattern. Furthermore there is a nice silver/white Boxwave logo printed in the bottom area on the backside of the HTC HD2.

Finally three additional advantages of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for the HTC HD2, with the first being the most important:

  • Front raised edges recess your screen to protect it when placed face down;
  • Washable and tear-resistant;
  • Available in crystal clear, fuchsia, smoke grey or violet blue color;

Overall conclusion and final thoughts

The Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2 is a highly functional and well-designed case to protect your precious HTC HD2. In the past I had some problems with silicone cases that weren’t able to hold the device after some time. The used material for the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip is just right !!

Whether you like the honeycomb pattern on the backside or not, there are really no comments to be made on the functional design of the Boxwave Honeycomb Slip for the HTC HD2. All ports and buttons are easily accessible, and the 5.0 megapixel camera is better protected from scratches with the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip on the HTC HD2. Also the increased protection when you put the HTC HD2 with the screen down on the table is one of the excellent design features, that I really like.

The pricepoint of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip for HTC HD2 is $19,95 which is a fair and reasonable price to protect a $600,- Windows Phone. Please head over to the Boxwave website and order this excellent case  or some other accessories right away if you own the HTC HD2 !

    It appears from the boxwave site it is only for the EU version. Are you using it on the T-Mobile version or the EU version?

    is it better than HTC HD2 Diamond Rugged Hard Plastic Case http://shop.brando.com/htc-hd2-diamond-rugged-hard-plastic-case_p04299c1139d039.html ?

    • http://www.mobilityminded.com Remo Knops

      Hi Patricia,

      While both cases look very similar at first sight, I could find some differences. However I need to remark that I don’t have the Brando HTC HD2 Diamond Rugged Hard Plastic Case, so I can’t do a head-to-head comparison.

      I think the camera area on the backside of the HTC HD2 is better protected with the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip.

      The cut-out of the Brando HTC HD2 Diamond Rugged Hard Plastic Case is wide around the camera, while the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip really encloses the camera.

      Furthermore there might be a difference in the used material as well. The description of the Brando HTC HD2 Diamond Rugged Hard Plastic Case states that it is a hard plastic case, while I would describe the material of the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip somewhere between the silicone – hard plastic end of the spectrum.

      In the end it is a matter of your personal choices, and please let me know what choice you have made, and what case you are/will be using.

        Hi Remo,

        Thx for your help. I’m going to buy the Boxwave Honeycomb Crystal Slip. I’m in Brazil so it will take awhile to arrive, but I soon as get it, I’ll let you know what are my thoughts about the case. :-)

  • Patricia

    I actually bought the HTC HD2 Diamond Rugged Hard Plastic Case from brando shop because of the shipping. The ohter one is too expensive to be sent to Brazil. I’ll test it when it arrives and then I post here my thoughts.
